Festival of Future event

On Thursday 7th October 2021, we are hosting Dorset Council’s Festival of Future. This event looks at the countryside of the future and how we might use innovation and technology to improve how we work.

We worked with Dorset Council last year to broadcast the festival via the magic of the internet, but this year we are going one step further. Thursday 7th October, the festival will be coming live from our headquarters in Shroton, near Blandford. You would be very welcome to join us on the day and be part of the live audience.

In the morning, Wessex Internet's Digby Sowerby will be discussing topics like how we use robots out in the fields and David Cotterell from Kingston Maurward agricultural college will be talking about how they are using technology to monitor cows. Ben Lancaster, who is the senior land agent for the county farms, will be joining us for the discussion and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

In the afternoon we will be looking at how tech is being used in the countryside to address climate change and hearing from Antony Littlechild and Heather Kiel from Low Carbon Dorset. Martin Sutcliffe, Dorset Aquaculture & Fisheries Development Officer, will talk about aquaculture which offers the greatest opportunity for expansion of seafood output and is also probably one of the few industries in a position to provide growth in both rural and coastal communities.
