Connecting Devon and Somerset
Delivering full fibre to South Somerset
Delivering full fibre to South Somerset
We have been contracted by Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) to deliver ultrafast full fibre broadband to homes and businesses in rural areas of South Somerset.
We will be bringing our full fibre network to more than 3,600 properties in some of the district’s most rural areas providing them with the ultrafast reliable internet connection they deserve.
Over the next three years, we will be building our network to a number of hamlets and villages across South Somerset. This map highlights the areas where coverage will be available to eligible properties.
We will be starting network construction in the Galhampton area in April 2021 and installing the first properties in North and South Barrow, Woolston and surrounding areas in Autumn 2021.
We have a unique cost-effective approach to building networks in rural areas, working in partnership with local landowners. By crossing fields and farmland, rather than digging up roads, we can roll out quickly and minimise disruption to local residents.

Please view our map for more details of the areas we will be connecting.
Our coverage checker will be ready during April and you will be able to see if your property is eligible under this programme. Please bear with us until then – or register for updates.
Our network build will commence in April 2021 and this will carry on through to 2024. More detailed information for your area and property will be available in April.
We will release a coverage checker in April so you can see if your property is included. You will be able to order from us or any participating wholesale provider shortly after.
The Connecting Devon and Somerset programme will connect properties in these areas that can’t access superfast broadband and have a broadband speed of less than 30Mbps. Our coverage checker will be ready during April 2021 and you will be able to see if your property is eligible under this programme.
These are the areas we have been contracted to deliver by Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS). For all homes and businesses without superfast broadband which cannot be connected under this contract, CDS will work with BDUK and the commercial sector to find alternative solutions. As you will see from our video, we try to build our network across fields and farmland, rather than roads where possible, to keep disruption to a minimum. We will work closely with residents, businesses and parish councils to ensure you are kept well informed about any upcoming work in your area.
All properties connected will be able to take a Wessex Internet service if they would like. However, the network will be an open access wholesale network, which means that other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will be able offer their services over the network too.
We work closely within the local community before during and after each stage of the work. We often work with local Community Champions who help to spread the word of our plans and ensure we address any community concerns. We’re always on the look out for people who want to get involved – so please do get in touch with us at cds.communities@wessexintern et.com
We will make contact with landowners, residents and businesses in your area with details of our plans a few months in advance. You can register your interest here, and we advise you to check this website as we will be updating it regularly.
