Work starts on full fibre roll out in Blandford

by Wessex Internet Team

Local internet service provider, Wessex Internet, has started construction of a new full fibre broadband network across Blandford to deliver an ultrafast connection to more than 6,000 homes and businesses in the town.

The first phase of construction installing infrastructure along the Trailway is now completed and the company has started connecting customers around Sunrise Business Park and in Blandford Heights. Work on the second phase of the project to connect residential properties has now started with the first residents in the Milldown area to benefit from full fibre connections shortly.

The company, which recently won a national award for its work delivering ultrafast broadband to rural communities, is building from its existing network connecting villages surrounding Blandford into the town itself.

Based in Shroton, near Blandford, the rapidly growing company recently announced it will create more than 100 new jobs in the next 12 months, many of which will be in its new Town Planning and Construction teams. Blandford is the first of a number of market towns in Dorset and Somerset that the company is in the process of connecting.

Hector Gibson Fleming, CEO of Wessex Internet, said: “Our expansion into market towns is an exciting new chapter for Wessex Internet, and there was no question we’d start in our hometown of Blandford. We’re delighted to have completed the phase one infrastructure build and can’t wait to start connecting residents to full fibre broadband.”
