Many homes and businesses in South Somerset are set to benefit from a game changing broadband upgrade with the first connections being made in 2021.
Connecting Devon and Somerset announced today that following a successful tender, Wessex Internet has been chosen to deliver a full fibre network benefiting thousands of homes and businesses. This publicly subsidised contract is good news for rural areas which do not have access to high-speed broadband connectivity currently.
Wessex Internet already has a fibre option network which it delivers across Dorset, South-Wiltshire, South-Somerset and parts of Hampshire.
Managing Director Hector Gibson Fleming said: *“This hugely exciting programme will allow us to focus on delivering even more connectivity to rural homes and businesses across South East Somerset. We already have a track record of delivering in this challenging geography and the programme will allow us to accelerate our work while still retaining our collaborative approach.
“We now look forward to partnering with more farmers and communities across the area to deliver full-fibre connections to even more of the countryside that has been overlooked by the major network providers.” Wessex Internet has already done significant internal preparation for the programme and is looking forward to starting work with the local communities early in new year.*
