Wessex Internet event championing communities

The Gigabit Voucher Scheme is one of the most exciting things to happen in connectivity for a long time, enabling customers to apply for up to £3,000 for a voucher towards superfast connections, so what better way to launch this as a pioneering initiative than to kick off with what we hope will be the first of many events to get Wessex better connected?
Why are we holding events?
The purpose of the events is to foster excellent relationships in the community and gather support for the Scheme, and we couldn’t have chosen a better day for this first one. Glorious sunny weather meant a great turnout, and it was a pleasure to invite guests and existing customers along to meet the whole team, hear about the Gigabit Voucher Scheme and what we’re up to, and of course enjoy some excellent drinks and canapes.
James and Hector Gibson Fleming, Wessex Internet’s founder and managing director respectively, were thrilled it was such a positive event. The full WIL team had a chance to meet guests and clients, and even the technical team were allowed down off their masts and out of the fields to join in and explain how some of their amazing machinery works!
Underlining that positivity, James summed it up in his opening line, “Welcome to one of the fastest places on Earth.” The Wessex Internet pledge is to get Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and surrounds up to superfast speeds, and the event was a great opportunity to outline how that’s going to happen.
“It was a pleasure to invite guests and existing customers along to meet the team, hear about the Gigabit Voucher Scheme and what we’re up to.”
Let's talk about fibre
Wessex Internet has long seen the importance of moving forward with fibre, a futureproof solution to slow and unreliable copper wire connections. James pointed out that there is great power in numbers, and urged the guests to work together and persuade their local communities to make use of this scheme to upgrade their business and home internet connections.
MD Hector Gibson Fleming then gave more details about the Gigabit Voucher Scheme and emphasised that this is a great opportunity not only for SMEs, but for local residential communities as well. For every business voucher, Wessex Internet can connect up to six residential properties. If this sounds of interest to you, you definitely need to get in touch with us.
After the speeches, guests had an exclusive chance to see how the machines actually work. The Ditch Witch is a steerable machine that can drill up to 6ft underground without leaving any traces and can pull ducts and cables back without damaging the ground surface, making it suitable for residential lands. So no issues with digging up grounds. The other one is a mole plough, which is used mostly on fields and can directly bury fibre underground for up to 3ft deep. There’s nothing quite like seeing this kind of thing first hand, and we know several guests left reassured and impressed.
“This is a great opportunity not only for SMEs, but for local residential communities as well.”
We’re very proud of the way we work with the landscape, and it’s been great to share that with some of our community.
The party concluded with warm farewells from James, Hector and the staff. All the guests received a goodie bag with more information about the Gigabit Voucher Scheme and some FAQs.
For a first event it couldn’t have gone better and all the team here are looking forward to meeting more of our supporters next time.
