Technical Support Analyst

About the Company

Wessex Internet is an award-winning rural Fibre and Wireless ISP in the South West that currently supports almost 3000 customers with many more devices, 110 masts and over 350kms of private fibre. The network is growing rapidly at over 5% a month to meet the high demand for its Wireless and Fibre services.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will report to the Technical Director and will be part of the team that provides 2nd line support to our client base. As part of the Network team he/she will also participate in the expansion of an existing WISP & Fibre network, maintaining its health and security.
The successful candidate will require a demonstrable knowledge of networking, IP technologies, routing and switching. He/she will also have customer support experience.


• Answer support calls, providing 2nd line technical support to customers.
• Be part of the team that monitors and maintains the Wireless/Fibre network.
• Assist in the configuration and deployment of network devices.

Qualifications and Experience

• University (or equivalent) degree in computer science, engineering or related field or 2-3 years professional experience relevant to this role.
• At least 1-2 years’ experience working in a customer support environment.
• A working knowledge of routing and switching hardware e.g. Cisco / Juniper. Mikrotik experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP stack and OSI model, L2 and L3 switching and routing technologies.
• A working knowledge of Linux-based operating systems is desirable.

Construction Team Members

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team building Fibre network in rural areas.

Wessex Internet is a dynamic and fast-growing ISP that is changing the way Full Fibre broadband is rolled out in rural areas. We believe that the countryside deserves a better internet experience and are passionate in delivering a fantastic service to our customers whose copper line upgrade is deemed uncommercial by the rest of the telecoms industry. We design, build and manage our own 800km Full Fibre network in-house.

Our Construction Team are looking for self-motivated, hardworking people to join our team. We operate specialist trenchless equipment, to allow simple and efficient build in tricky terrain.

The team is split into two sections. Network construction – building the backbone network – and garden construction – more customer-facing, running the section of cable up to each individual new customer.

Roles are available to suit applicants of varying experience and qualifications. These include:

1. Mole Plough Team Leader

• Increased responsibility of managing a team
• Requires great time and motion skills to maximise productivity
• Liaising with landowners about routing and obstacles
• Maintenance of machinery

2. Mini Excavator Operators – to work as part of a mole plough gang
3. Directional Drill Operators
4. Garden Work Operatives
