Wessex Trailers get ultrafast broadband

by Emily Bray

Business Profile

Wessex Trailers is a long established company supplying trailers across the UK and Europe to local authorities, utilities, private companies, and individuals. The Dorset-based company manufactures a comprehensive range of high-quality trailers which have a proven record of reliability and durability and are generally recognised as amongst the strongest in the marketplace.

Business Challenge

Like many rural businesses, Wessex Trailers suffered with an extremely slow internet connection, making it difficult to run their e-commerce store efficiently and impacting the productivity of its workforce. Other internet providers had informed them that they would not be bringing fibre broadband to the area for the foreseeable future, at least another 3-5 years. They were quoted £10k-£12k for a dedicated connection. On one occasion, an engineer from their previous provider visited to check their line and declared he was surprised they were able to get any broadband at all. Without a reliable internet connection, they found the e-commerce growth they desired stunted. This proved worrying as more people favoured online shopping due to Covid-19.

Wessex Internet to the rescue

A member of the sales team at Wessex Internet approached James, the Director of Wessex Trailers, and informed him of the community project which was set up for his area of Waddock near Dorchester. They explained that he would qualify for a government-funded voucher to enable installation of full fibre broadband to the business, free of charge. Following his experience with other broadband providers, James leapt at the chance.

Better business connectivity

Wessex Internet installed ultrafast full fibre broadband to the business from their main network. Although the whole process took slightly longer than anticipated James was kept informed throughout and was impressed by Wessex Internet’s high level of service. Wessex Internet took care of everything, this included applying and managing the UKGV Voucher application process. The installation team’s attention to detail, work ethic and efficiency meant the full fibre installation did not disrupt or effect the general running of the business.

Boost to the business

Wessex Trailers now has an excellent broadband connection that they can rely on and have been able to grow the e-commerce side of the business considerably. They are now adding spare parts site which will further increase their revenue, this is something they could not have even considered with their old broadband provider.

‘Over the last three years we have doubled our turnover on internet sales, and we are now developing our own spare parts site. This isn't something we'd have considered with the old internet connectivity.’ – James Eaton, MD
