Nokia Beacon 6 (B6) Booster – Troubleshooting Tips
Wessex Internet
If you’re worried that your WiFi booster isn’t working as it should, don’t worry. Most issues are quick and easy to fix and can often be resolved in just a few minutes.
To get started, here’s a simple guide to what the lights on the booster mean:
- No colour: No power
- Solid White: The booster is powering on
- White Slow Pulsing: Pairing is in progress
- White 3 Second Quick Pulse: Pairing is successful
- Solid Blue-Green: Normal operation and good connection
- Slow Pulsing Yellow: The booster is in configuration mode
- Solid Yellow: The link to the router is poor (move it closer)
- Solid Red: No connection to the internet
- Fast Pulsing Red: Factory reset is in progress
Now that you understand what the lights mean, let’s take a deeper dive into some simple things to try if you’re experiencing issues:
“How do I pair my booster with my router?”
The easiest method is to download the Nokia WiFi app.
- Bring the boosters into the same room as the router and power them on whilst pairing`
- Download the Nokia WiFi app on your phone from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store
- Once in the app, go to the Network tab at the bottom of the screen, tap on Wi-Fi Points, and select Add Wi-Fi point
- The app will prompt you to scan a QR code which is located on the base of your booster
- The router and booster will now start to pair. The booster light should change from flashing yellow/white to solid blue once the pairing is complete. This process takes around 6-10 minutes
- In the Nokia WiFi app, go to Network Map, click on the newly added booster.
Click on the [3 Dots] menu in the Top Right and Select ‘Reposition’ - Follow the on-screen location test to ensure the best placement which will be GOOD/ GREAT. Once the app confirms the best placement, unplug your booster and place it in its permanent location
- Power it on in its new location. The app will finalise the connection (the light will flash yellow/white then turn solid blue). Please note this may take up to 30 minutes the first time you pair
“My booster light is red – what can I do?”
Don’t panic - this usually means your booster is too far away from the main router. Try moving the booster closer to the router and give it a few minutes to reconnect.
Top tips:
- Keep the booster out in the open (not inside cupboards)
- Place it off the ground
- Keep it away from TVs and microwaves
“My WiFi is strong in some rooms but weak in others – why is this?”
WiFi signals travel best through open spaces clear of obstructions such as walls, floors, and furniture which can block or weaken the signal. Try placing your booster in a more open area, such as a hallway or landing.
Top tip: Your booster works best when placed roughly halfway between your router and the area with poor signal - close enough to stay connected to the router, but far enough to extend coverage. It may take a few attempts to find the “sweet spot.”
“My internet feels slow”
That’s frustrating! A quick restart can often help refresh your connection.
To restart:
- Turn the booster off
- Restart the main router
- Wait for the router to fully power back on
- Turn the booster back on
- Allow a few minutes for everything to reconnect
“My tablet keeps disconnecting from WiFi. How can I fix this?”
Sometimes devices hold onto weak or outdated connections, especially after changes to your WiFi network. A simple restart of your device itself can often fix this.
Try:
- Turning your device off and on again
- Disconnecting from WiFi and reconnecting
- Moving closer to the booster while reconnecting
“My TV show keeps buffering”
No one likes interruptions to their favourite shows!
If your content keeps buffering:
- Move your booster to a more open space
- Avoid placing it near thick walls or large metal objects
- Restart your TV or streaming platform
Please note: If multiple people in your home are streaming, gaming, or downloading at the same time, your connection may temporarily slow down – this is normal.
